Daily vs. lifetime budget in ChatGPT Ads: which one, when?
Every ChatGPT campaign starts with one fundamental choice: a daily budget or a lifetime budget. Both cap your spend — but in very different ways. Here's how to decide.
The difference in one line
- Lifetime budget: a cap for the entire run of the campaign.
- Daily budget: a cap per day that resets every day.
Important: you pick exactly ONE per campaign — you can't combine a daily and a lifetime budget.
When to use a daily budget
- For always-on campaigns with no fixed end date.
- For testing new ads with predictable, even daily spend.
- When you want to cap what you spend per day rather than over the whole run.
When to use a lifetime budget
- For time-boxed pushes: a product launch, a sale, an event.
- When you have a fixed total to spend across the campaign's run.
- Paired with a start and end date for a clear campaign window.
Good to know
- The daily budget has a minimum of 15 per day (in your account currency).
- A daily budget doesn't get exhausted over time — it starts fresh each day.
- Both caps are per campaign. Eligible accounts also have a separate, account-wide daily cap across all campaigns.
