Q4 checklist: preparing ChatGPT Ads for Black Friday and the holidays

For many shops, the fourth quarter decides the year — and in 2026, ChatGPT is for the first time a channel where shopping advice happens at scale. If you want to run ads in peak week, do the preparation now, not on the Thursday before Black Friday. Here's the list we go through with our customers.

1. Sort out account approvals now

Account brand review at “approved”, favicon uploaded, destination domain verified. Each of these hurdles can take days, and no ad serves while one is open. The Ad account page in Chatvertise shows the status; if the favicon is missing, you upload it right there.

2. Create campaigns early — paused

New and edited ads go through a review. So create peak campaigns weeks in advance, get them approved, and set a start and end date or leave them paused. On the day of the sale all it takes is one click — and the history shows who clicked it and when.

3. Choose the budget type deliberately

For a clearly bounded sale like the Black Friday weekend, a lifetime budget with an end date fits: it can't overrun. For the whole season a daily budget makes more sense, so no single day drains the account — ChatGPT Ads requires a minimum of 15 in account currency per day for it. Work the peak budget back through your expected conversion rate so bid and target ROAS line up.

4. Clean up the feed

  • Check the product count in the feed against your shop — are seasonal items missing?
  • Update prices and sale prices in the feed in time; Chatvertise can push prices via delta update without reloading the whole feed.
  • Review the feed settings: countries and search eligibility decide which products get served at all.
  • Remove sold-out products — an ad pointing at empty stock costs clicks without revenue.

5. Prepare audiences

Existing customers convert cheapest in peak season. Upload your customer list as a custom audience, build lookalikes from it and give them their own ad group with a higher bid. Matching takes time — so don't start in peak week.

6. Test conversion tracking before it matters

Shopify orders flow into Chatvertise as conversions without code; verify with a test order that events arrive. Important: a campaign's conversion event cannot be changed after creation. If you're preparing campaigns now, you have to pick the event correctly now.

7. Automation rules as a safety net

In peak season you don't have time to check the dashboard hourly. Two rules are enough to start: “CPA over 3 days above threshold → pause” and “spend over 1 day above threshold → pause”. The reverse works too: a rule can activate a backup campaign once the main campaign has hit its target.

8. Agree on reporting conventions

Before the season, agree on an attribution window and a time basis — and stick with them. Otherwise, in January you'll be comparing counting methods instead of campaigns. For reconciling with the shop backend, the conversion time basis is usually the right choice.

9. A timeline that accounts for review times

  • 4 weeks out: account approvals, feed hygiene, upload audiences.
  • 2 weeks out: create campaigns and ads, wait for approval, set up rules.
  • 1 week out: test order, finalize bids, release budgets.
  • Sale day: activate, check KPIs twice a day, leave the rest to the rules.

You can do all of this in Chatvertise on one screen — from the favicon upload to the automation rule. Connect your account and work through the list at your own pace.
