History in practice: three cases the ChatGPT Ads audit log solves
Since late September, ChatGPT Ads provides a complete change log through the API, and Chatvertise shows it as “History” in the sidebar. Instead of describing the feature, we'll show it through three situations every team knows.
Case 1: “Who doubled the budget?”
Monday morning, the week's spend is well above plan. In the history you filter by the campaign and see a line from Friday evening: type “budget changed”, before 500, after 1,000, actor and timestamp next to it. The question is answered in ten seconds — and the discussion is about the decision, not about hunting for the culprit.
Case 2: “Why has the campaign been paused since Tuesday?”
A campaign stopped serving, nobody wants to have done it. The history shows the entry “campaign paused” with the exact time. The actor type reveals whether a person in the Ads Manager, an API access or an automation triggered the change. Changes via Chatvertise and from automation rules appear here just like changes made directly in the Ads Manager — the log is OpenAI's, not ours.
Case 3: “Did the rule really fire?”
You set up a rule “CPA over 3 days above 60 → pause” and want to know whether it fired yesterday. Two places: the Automation page in Chatvertise shows each rule's run log — which campaign, which measured value, which action. And the history shows the resulting pause as a normal change in the account. Together they form the complete chain from condition to effect.
What a line in the history contains
- Type of change: pause, activate, budget, bid, targeting, creative and more — Chatvertise translates the codes.
- Object: campaign, ad group or ad, with name.
- Before/after: only the fields that actually changed. Everything unchanged is hidden.
- Actor: type and identifier of whoever triggered the change.
- Time in the account time zone.
Two tips
First: the search in the history covers object name, type and actor — typing “paused” is enough to see all pauses. Second: for agencies, the history is the tool for client questions. A screenshot of the line replaces an email chain.
